About Me

Hello!

I am Vidhu, a 36-year-old Indian woman with a lifelong love affair with cooking and eating. I was raised on a steady dose of traditional Indian fare, rich with spices and stories. My love for cooking took root in my teenage years, when I became the designated chef for Sunday lunches—a job that I took very seriously! Feeding the people I love has brought me immense joy for as long as I can remember—but I also find a quiet satisfaction in the stillness of a solo meal, where it is just me, my thoughts, and a bowlful of something nourishing and delicious.

My academic background is in molecular biology, a path that gave me a profound respect for the science behind the stove—the alchemy of heat and time, the precision and balance of spices, the patience to keep refining a dish until it becomes what it was always meant to be. But my true culinary spirit has been shaped by the women in my family. My mother, through her simple, soulful meals, taught me how food can become a quiet kind of love language. And though I never cooked beside her, I feel an almost ancestral kinship with my maternal grandmother, my nani —a gifted cook with an insatiable appetite for new recipes. I like to think that we share the same hunger, the same curiosity, passed down through the generations like a well-worn ladle.

While much of my cooking is anchored in the food of my childhood, it has also evolved with me—shaped by new places, new ingredients, and the joy of making old recipes feel new again. In many ways, my food tells the story of where I come from—and where life has taken me.

I’m a fiercely ambitious home cook (yes, don’t be fooled by my soft presence—there’s fire in there!). My ambition is rooted in my greed to make every single meal an enjoyable affair. Every meal must be spectacular because boring food would quite frankly be the death of me. I draw inspiration from anywhere and everywhere. I sometimes love recreating dishes I’ve tried at restaurants. Other times a meal at a friend’s house, or even just a craving that won’t leave me alone. I love recreating and reimagining flavours until they feel like my own.I would be delighted if you chose to cook my recipes just as they are. But what would make me even happier is if they spark something in you—an idea, a craving, a memory—and lead you to create something of your own. Happy Cooking!

Pictured here is me on my 34th birthday at a restaurant called Vegan Street in Calgary, munching on Yam fries and a glorious trio of vegan tacos—fish, chicken, and beef. The fish taco stole the show with its maximum flavour burst!
